Prospective Participants

Ready to join the Circuit?

From multiple views and genres, the Circuit is a project dedicated to promoting great kamishibai stories and artists. If you're curious about contributing please read the corresponding sections and feel free to contact us.

[WRITERS] ~ [ARTISTS] ~ [VOICE ACTORS]

Prospective Writer: Although you are more than welcome to do both the writing and artwork for a kamishibai series, we also seek those who simply write stories. All genres are welcome to The Circuit since we do aim to diversify our lineup. However, there are guidelines that must be adhered to:

~Four Episode Series

Once of the main points of The Circuit is the short kami series. They act as both crux and centerpiece to the project and must therefore be the crux of your story format. You will need to create a four episode script and submit it to The Circuit. This requires those four episodes to have the usual story elements: introduction, rising action, denouement, and falling action.

~Preparation Time

From the time you send in the "announcement" of your series to the time it is prepared, two months should have passed. Meaning that you have two months as a deadline for the story during which frequent updates are necessary. Frequent meaning you send in an email update once every two weeks or more if possible. (That's a minimum of four updates.) Remember that this requirement is simply for the script itself. If you're doing both script and artwork, you will of course have more time.

~Detachment

One of the great principles of Tao and especially essential here. If you will not be doing your own artwork then that will mean that The Circuit will have to find an artist for you. That is unless you wish to find one on your own or know one already. If we have to find one for you, please be aware that, like you, these artists are volunteers. So it would be best not to submit your "dream project" if you wish to submit a series.

What does that mean? The Dream Project is that story we've always wanted to do. We know exactly what the characters look like, what the places would be, and how the story should feel. So understandably, the visuals must be perfect.

If your story is a dream project, and you will not be doing the art for it, please don't submit it. Artists need room to work and play when it comes to story visuals. If that thought doesn't jive well with you, then submitting an alternate story may be in order.

~Your Story. Your Rights.

Recall that The Circuit is not planning, nor permitting, to make monetary profit off of the stories submitted. The rights to the story are truly yours, in so far as text goes if all you submit is a script. You must be aware, however, that if an artist has to work with you, once the kamishibai series is completed you must SHARE the rights to the series with that artist. Although the text and story beyond that are yours to post anywhere you like.

The only rights The Circuit has to a series, once completed, is when we utilize it to promote the site and project.

~Notes and Omake

It is a tradition among the online Kamishibai makers to include "Author's Notes" with each episode of a kami, be it a one-shot or series. These notes usually include acknowledgements, personal feelings, "making of..." information, interesting bits of info, etc. You will need to provide your Kamishibai with these notes.

Another omake facet, which basically means "gift" in Japanese, is the trend of having an Omake folder filled with extras. You are of course welcome but not required to include this as well. Omakes are a fun aspect of the kamishibai, a chance for the author to interact directlywith the audience.

~Submission: Announcement

The initial submission before you turn in the text will be emailing your announcement information. This will allow us to place your series on the status board. This is what will need to be included in the email:

    Author/Company/Group Name:
    Series Name:
    Series Synopsis:
    Genre:
    Comments/Concerns:
Will We need to find an Artist for you? Yes or No

~Submission: Story

Your original email will be on file, so all you will need to do is send your story to us in a zip file. Also if any information needs to be changed, notify us at the time of you sending this submission. (Such as a change of email address, synopsis rewrite, company name change, etc.)

~Auxiliary Information

You may ask yourself : "How long should these episodes be?" since you'll need about four of them. The best thing to do would be to download the Accursed Toys Kamishibai Viewer off of [Otaku World] and experience a few kamishibai for yourself. Afterall, you wouldn't write a script for a play without ever seeing one.

Once again, after you submit your announcement, you will have two months to complete your script. If you have nothing after three months we'll have to take your script off of the status page.

Although we only accept stories in four episode loads you are more than welcome to sign up again AFTER your current series appears on Otaku World. Then again, you're more than welcome to make more kamis without The Circuit. The decision is yours.

Remember that the most important things are to have fun and to learn.
